234. Qila-i-Mubarak at Shahajanabad

Qila-i-mubarak, have you heard of this place in Delhi? he he ... it is the popular Lal-Qila or Red Fort :) During Mughal period, Shahjahan built the city Shahajanabad and moved the residence of Royal family to Qila-i-mubarak, ie Belssed Fort.

The fort is built in Shahajahani style, that is the mix of european, persian and indian architecture. Many emperors lived here, added mahals and masjids. Now, it the site from where the Indian Prime Minister addresses the nation on Independence Day.

It is a UNESCO World Heritage site, but there are no fountains, some of the art work is deteriorating, mosques are closed to the public. It houses museums. There is a light and sound show, as in any other fort in India, which is nice it seems. It must be, they are always good. I haven't seen it though.
