233. Snow capped Himalayas at Rothang Pass

Rothang, the literal meaning -pile of corpses! is a place of sheer beauty. Why do they call it with the terrible name? The weather here is extremely unpredictable, it could rain, snow or covered with fog which made people go through hard time.  Over the centuries people have died here crossing the pass during winter and their bones are buried here. Hence, pile of corpses!

Rothang Pass is 50Km from Manali is a popular tourist destination in Himachal Pradesh. The Pir Panjal range seen from here was admired by the Ved Vyas Muni who meditated here at Beas Kund. Today hoards of tourists (I was one of them) visit this place and are ruining the whole area ... as the tourist vehicles and military vehicles create traffic jam on this tight road.

Once here, people forget about the ecosystem, traffic jams, motion sickness and just enjoy the Himalayas :)
